should I move to sky q from stream?

Hi All,

Basically, I signed up sky stream for my elderly mother as she used to watch some channels that were free on a dish without subscription (but no longer are free).

The issue is that my mother can't navigate sky stream.

Firstly, you have to select AV to switch To HDMI 1 (it doesn't just come on).

Secondly, when signing up, I was told that she could just enter a channel number (like on the old sky interface) and go straight to the channel. But this doesn't appear to be the case - you have to be on the guide or in a channel.

So my question is - am I better of signing up to sky q in order for the TV to 'just load up' and for her to press a channel number to go to a particular channel she watches?

Many thanks.

Regarding the HDMI1 switch, that may be a TV setting but on Sky check out Settings > Start up and Standby and make sure HDMI control is on

You're correct that channel number input only works when on live TV. You can easily get there from the main menu by pressing LEFT and it will slide across to your most recent channel, pressing the middle select button will then take you to live TV without having to enter the guide.

Regarding whether it's best to go to Sky Q or not, I suppose it depends how quickly this new muscle memory kicks in, I can't speak for your mother there so use your judgement.

Thanks for your response.

In regards to the HDMI issue, I'm finding that when turning off the TV with the TV remote, the sky stream puck also switches off.  I was hoping it would stay on so when the TV is turned on again, it goes straight to it.

I've disabled all energy saving features on the sky stream puck.

That's not possible because Stream will always go to sleep eventually I believe.

I'm intrigued as to which channels were previously free but aren't now?

Some international channel(s) which are no longer on free to air but on sky essentials.
