Sky Stream stuttering

Hey all!

I have had the Sky Stream puck for around 6 months or so now. I have not had any issues until the last couple of days. When trying to watch certain sports channels (mainly football and main event) the screen is stuttering throughout. My puck is connected via ethernet and my speeds through the Netflix trick show speeds of 45mbps. I only watch through standard HD. I have tried resetting the puck aswell as the router, but to no avail.

Has anyone had similar issues and if so how was it fixed?

Thanks!

Make sure you have WiFi turned off in the network settings. Give the puck a reboot either from the settings menu or turn it off at the wall for a minute or two. It may just be a congestion issue with the server your puck is connected to and it needs a refresh.

Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, I have tried all of that. Still having the same issues.

Ah, OK. Not much else I can suggest I'm afraid. It could just be congestion on the server your puck is connected to - sport is the most popular thing that customers have Sky Stream for.

If you're only watching in HD then make sure your puck is set to output 1080i - this is the native stream HD resolution. If you're currently set to 2160P it means the puck is having to do the upscaling and this will take up some of its video processing power. The more load you can remove from the puck itself the better, particularly with a relatively low broadband speed. If you're connected to a 4K TV then the TV will do the upscaling instead if the puck is set to 1080i.

Hi @LewisTurnbull

Thank you for your post about this problem.

This problem feels more throughput on your broadband connection, what type of router are you using?

Thanks

Re: Sky Stream stuttering

Hey.

Sky have recently given me a new router. Both my PS5 and Sky Stream are etherneted in. My playstation is running at around 53mbps and my sky stream anywhere between 40-45. It is only happening on the sky sports channels. Everything else is fine.

Thanks.

That should be ok to run Sky Stream successfully, if it stays at those speeds constantly.

When you say only on Sky Sports channels, is that watching via the Sky Sports Main Event UHD channel, watching Sky Sports F1 UHD channel or watching anything via a red button UHD stream.

Using UHD/HDR will add some extra local network load per puck that could be the cause of your issues.

If that is the case, the way to test that is to only watch the Sports channels in HD.

Also, selecting the live sync option, can for a short  time add a small jump in your local network performance per puck and will then settle down to using a few Mbps.a

Re: Sky Stream stuttering

I only use standard HD. The issues are mainly on sky sports football and sky sports +. The others seem to be okay.

Could this be an issue with these channels skys end?

Not seen any similar issues that singular or a group of channels cause issues like this.

Except as I mentioned with uhd above.

Not aware that those channels operate in any different way or in fact  should.

Many watch those channels regularly and not seen this kind of mention.

I know you have already mentioned  rebooting your router and a puck restart.

Can you please do the following in the exact order.

Do a restart of your Sky Stream box;
Go to Settings>Systems Management>Resets & Updates
Select Restart device
Your Sky Stream puck will perform a reboot. It will take a few minutes to complete.

Once the asky Stream puck is back up, play the Sky News channel for about five minutes. Do nothing else on the Puck.

Then, put your Sky Puck into standby. Do not switch the power off.

Go to your Sky broadband router (by the way you have the same router as mine), power the router off and leave off power for more than half an hour.

This ( 30 minutes or more off power) will reset your WAN ip address, a possible cause in delivery issues.

After that half hour, power on your Sky router.

Once it's up and running and your internet and voice lights are all showing green, click the Home key on your Sky Stream.

Once again, only play Sky News channel for five minutes.

Then do another Sky stream puck settings restart.

This should hopefully do some kind of complete delivery refresh, that may help going forwards.
