Sky Stream Review

Having just started with Sky stream and with sky broadband, I'm not really impressed. The signal keeps dropping out, the box has frozen and it can take a while to load.

 

My wife was asked by the engineer, why we have gone from Sky Q, to Sky stream as it was a downgrade in his knowledge of the system.

 

Currently, I wouldnt recommend it.

@mjmcq1212 sorry you are having issues Stream does require a good data feed which many home Wifi systems struggle to provide but given that you dont get buffering issues you report.

 

Sky's engineers are not exactly being objective as they face redundancy if Sky move away from satellite broadcasting as is highly probable. Over 1000 redundancies were annouced a couple of months baxk.

@mjmcq1212  You only telling existing Sky Stream users.

 

How is your puck connecting to your hub?

 

What speed are you getting at the hub (open the Netflix app and go to settings there is a speedtest option).  Anything less than 25mbps for HD & 35mbps for UHBD will cause these issues.

 

Poor wifi is normally the cause of these isues (not to be confused with line speed uinless that is below what the pucks need).

 

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

It's a definite downgrade if you're used to a system with a hard drive for recordings and easy time-shifting. Not to mention the fact Q is a mature piece of kit with very few bugs.

On the other hand... if you have multiscreen and more than one UHD TV... it is an upgrade if you want to watch programmes in UHD on those TVs... Sky Q will never support more than one UHD TV😉

Sky Q to Sky Stream has been an upgrade for some not for others, definitely has been for me. I am afraid those that hang on to the recording of tv on a hard drive.  Your days are numbered. Streaming is the future. I love the modern UI, the fact that I can have a playlist for all my apps programmes and 4k on second box

I don't disagree that streaming is the future, and I have been very happy with Sky Stream since I got it at launch in 2022. 

However, I still miss some of my favourite sports because of the randomness of playlist.

It mostly works for sky shows now, but if I want to watch skiing on Eurosport I really have to watch it live, because there's simply no telling which programmes will appear in my playlist. 

Shame they don't do a streaming box with a hard drive in it like bt tv pro, for the best of both worlds.
