Sky Stream - Recording Cycling (Giro)

Today's Giro de Italia. Stage 2 was 221km long. At exactly 218km, a mere 3km from the finish line as an exciting 3 man breakaway were powering their way to the end my Sky Stream box stopped recording.

Last year during the Giro, TDF and Vuelta, it was exactly the same [Removed] unreliability for Recording cycling. Some days it would record all, some days part and others nada. I complained, and with no resolution eventually cancelled.

You might ask, well why did I go back. Sadly since the end of Eurosport + amazing GCN app subscription service ended and TNT took over everything deteriorated to the point of uselessness. Today, I have no other legal way of watching the cycling in the ROI.

And yes I went through a whole Factory reset for the umpteenth time quite recently. I will do it again today to keep the Tech folk happy. And my Broadband (Sky also) works wonderfully. No issues, great speed

Just to be clear, your Sky Stream puck isn't actually recording anything.

The issue you are experiencing is down to poor metadata management on SkyOS, the proprietary operating system Sky use for Stream & Glass.

When you set a programme to 'record' from the TV Guide, in particular a live sporting event, you are merely telling SkyOS that you want to watch a section of the live stream later. The duration of this will be set by whatever has been listed on the TV Guide. 
Sky save these sections of live streams (for sporting events) on their servers, so that other viewers who set the same thing to 'record' can stream them later.
But the problem is, if the event over-runs its allocated time slot on the TV Guide, Sky don't seem to always update the metadata on the server to shift the end point of the saved section of the live stream. Hence it cuts off when it was supposed to end according to the TV Guide information.
The missing section probably exists on the server, but would need a human being to go in and manually input the correct end point for the event in the metadata. This would then adjust the end point of the saved 'recording' on the server to the correct ending of the actual event. 
It's possible that Sky have automated their streaming infrastructure to such an extent that there just isn't an actual human being on their payroll to monitor these things and make the required metadata adjustments to ensure events are correctly labelled.
