Sky Puck Remote does not switch off TV or amp

Does anybody else have this problem?

My puck and remote has been set up for my TV, a LG OLED55B7V and my Pioneer amp, VSX-S520D.

The volume control works as it should on both the TV and the Pioneer amp, no problem there, but when it comes to switch off the system, the remote only turns off the Pioneer amp and not the TV! Interestingly, the puck appears to stay on as the TV screen goes blank then shows the output of the Puck! No sound obviously as the Pioneer has been switched off!

I have an old Sky Q remote which does switch the whole system off fully! Why is it that the Sky Puck remote can't switch the TV off, but the Sky Q remote can?

The correct TV model was inputted when set up and as I said it does control the TV volume correctly.

In short, why can't a much newer remote not correctly control the TV and amp when the older Sky Q remote can?

@Ian_Boxgrove   Hi Ian, just a thought, when you have switched off your Sky Stream puck and your amp, have you tried pointing the remote at the tv and pressing the on/off button and holding it for a few seconds?  That is how it should work!

Hi Stephen

I've tried that and the LG refuses to switch off! What is annoying is that the Sky Q remote switches off the amp and the TV without fail! What have they done to the remote or the puck to screw up this? The old adage of  'If it ain't broke, don't fix it!' I think applies here.

Hi Ian,

I understand your frustration, but as I described that is how it should work, and to be fair it does work that way for most of us and I have an LG tv like you.  It is a puzzle why it's not doing that for you, but I'm not 100% sure it's Sky's fault.  Maybe someone else on here can think of something else.

And why isn't it Sky's poor coding in the Puck and/or the stream remote? If it works  perfectly with a Sky Q remote, why not a Sky Stream remote? There is no other logical explanation!

Re: Sky Puck Remote does not switch off TV or amp

Just to add to the conversation, I am a new Sky Stream customer.

I previously used an Amazon Fire Stick; the Amazon remote on a single press of the power button would turn on (or off) the TV, AVR, and the Fire Stick.

Now that I have the Sky Stream puck (and have programmed it correctly, enabled CEC etc), the AVR no longer turns on and off (the TV does on a long press, as commented above). What I've noticed is, when the AVR is already on prior to the the puck being turned on, turning the puck on does change the AVR to the correct input, but again, it doesn't turn it on (or off).

This would suggest there's an issue with the CEC.

I would 100% agree. I tried every possible permutation of connection with my puck and AVR but could never get it to function correctly. I ended up using a CEC blocker in the end as the puck was sending CEC commands (even when in standby) which would interfere with other devices connected to my amp.

I now use an Apple TV 4K box for most viewing which hasn't failed me once and correctly turns all my equipment on or off with a single button push.
