Just a idea... 🙂
So you just plug in a USB-C into it to charge it.. 🙂 Like how you charge a contoller from your PS5/Xbox.

It would be nice, but will probably be too costly to manufacture in the mass-market quantities required.

Find out more@spannernick1 A great idea but not sure it is would be practical in terms of the price point but they could do with some better quality remotes as the current ones are dreadful. The Apple TV remote is rechargeable through USB C and works really well and the charge lasts for absolutely ages.

mmm... never thought of that... 🙂
I see they change the back of it and has no door for the batteries, I see why, the back door would aways come off on the Sky Q remote every time I dropped it, I ended up selotaping it in the end to stop it coming off... 🙂
How do you remove the back of the Sky Steam remote to change its batteries if they run out, it looks like the batteries are permanent...?

I certainly like the idea of- I just bet that the additional cost it would require would make it prohibitive for Comcast, particularly as they don't charge customers for the directly for the remote.
Perhaps they could offer it as an additional optional paid for extra for those that would be willing to pay for one though.

I use lithium rechargeable batteries in mine. Not as convenient as having the charger built into the remote, of course.

Find out more@spannernick1 To remove the back of the remote which can be very hard the first few time you remove it I find holding the remote at both ends with the buttons down and my thumbs on top and then applying pressure and pushing with one thumb and pulling with the other in the direction of the arrow is sufficient to remove the cover. Note the back only moves a few millimetres and can then be lifted off.
A number of people have found that wearing rubber kitchen gloves helps to give more purchase on the plastic components.

Find out moreIt does mildly annoy me that Sky claims eco-credentials by shipping the remote in a paper envelope (and even have a paper pull tab) but then populates it with cheap nasty disposable Chinese batteries that inevitably have a significant carbon footprint...

Excellent idea. Whoever designed the current one didn't think about those people who would struggle to open it. It's so tricky and particularly for those with being neurodivergent etc.

How often do you change the batteries?
I've put in new batteries once in 15 months.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Bill051 My original Sky Glass remote needed the batteries changed every 2 weeks so I complained to Sky and I was sent a replacement. This one last about 6 to 8 weeks before the batteries go flat.
The old Sky Q remotes were so much better and used to last between 12 to 18 months before the batteries needed replacing.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Fothergill1 I could almost have written that myself! The Puck remote batteries last about 6 weeks largely in the hands of my other half.
The batteries in the Glass remote, used mainly by me, last about 12 months.

Surprisingly mine lasted about 16 months with the original batteries.

Our original batteries lasted about 8 months and we've been running the same set of Duracell's for the last 10 months.
