Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

The obvious lack of response here from Sky on this forum issue does make me wonder about the interest and communication from the organisation!  Basic marketing techniques would prompt Sky to look at what was aggravating customers on the Forum and make some effort to communicate progress and advise accordingly.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Hi Chloe - could we get an update on the next release to address this? Thx

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

@64monks Agreed and thank you Chloe in advance. It's taking an awful long time to sort, yet costs go up quick enough for something that is not working correctly!!

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

@Chloe-W22 mentioned on another thread that Release 35 has started rolling out this week and is estimated to be completed by the 25th March. Chloe, do you know this release has any fixes intended for this problem or will it be a future release?

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

I did find a thread on Sky Germany's forum where it looks like they're slightly ahead with the QS035 rollout where someone said (translated)

There is no difference between the QS035 and the QS034, apart from the important bug fix that now keeps the sound synchronized with the picture

So that sounds promising, but of course they're a different market and so we should hold off to hear from Sky on that in the UK.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

We've just got Stream to replace our Sky Q and we're getting the Audio sync issues unless I use stereo - passthrough has the same bug. Just seen this thread, how on earth is this still a problem? Going to have to send it back I think

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

@cynonvalleyboy Maybe they should credit us each month until they have sorted all the many issues including this one out. If you go to most shops etc and things don't work, one gets a full refund or replacement to replace the faulty product. It shouldn't be any different here and we are paying for something that is not fully working

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Only had sky broadband and streaming puck for a few days and having trouble with lip sync issue. After trying some of the suggestions on this thread still no improvement.  I thought I would try a gold plated one metre  hdmi cable and it seems to have cured the problem. Time will tell. Worth a try.

Super+Anthony.

Quite right sky is getting full price for part service. It was said on here yesterday that sky in Germany had rolled out an upgrade that fixed the issue

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Peeps, don't go spending money on expensive HDMI cables. All the cable is there for is to deliver the digital information to the decoding appliance. For image this will be your TV. For audio it could be an AVR, soundbar or again the TV. The puck will have a digital TMDS 'clock' which should syncronise the audio to the image, HDMI will then connect with your appliance and it's 'clock' should decode the incoming signal at the right time stamp, often referred to as the handshake. Sometimes a new cable will, by simply being a new connection, give a better handshake. If the clocks are wrong then the audio will drift again.

That's a very simplistic answer and there's more to HDMI than syncronisation and the latest version of HDMI is 2.1 (and 2.1b). All you need is a working cable capable of the current specifications and can be confirmed by scanning the QR code on the box it came in. Make sure that the ends of the cable and fully inserted in both the puck and the TV and secure.

What's going wrong with Sky is that the TMDS clock is not working as it should and is a software problem. Early Apple TV pucks suffered from the same problem. Now the latest ATV+ is far more stable and I've never encountered lip sync problems at all, I'm very sensitive to it, my wife not so, which is why I had to return my Stream.

Quite why Sky is so far behind the curve ball with Stream is possibly down to doing them on the cheap and what is needed is a completely new puck as the best way to get over the problem. It should be obvious to Sky by now is that the firmware updates and not working for 100% of customers. Even high end equipment can have software problems so it's not unique. Where Sky is letting their customers down is in their somewhat head in the sand approach early on blaming the problems on customers' own equipment. Now there is an acknowledgement but Sky still insist on customers paying a high price for a poor service, which is totally wrong.

Completely agree @cynonvalleyboy they have sold something that is not fully working correctly

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

@Littletaffia I think the problem is that Sky are not taking full responsibility and keep trying to put the blame on us etc

That is patently untrue in relation to this issue. Sky have not stopped investigating.
