Dolby Atmos vs lip sync issues

I understand I need the sound setting on Stream to be Dolby Digital Plus for Atmos. When I've had it on this setting, my Sonos app shows Atmos output to my soundbar. Fine. However, on that setting there are lip sync issues across broadcast TV and on demand content. The only way I can resolve the lip sync issues is to change the sound setting to PCM Stereo which then knocks Dolby Atmos out. So, it looks like I'm going to have to 'disable' Atmos to resolve the annoying lip sync. I've not yet found a way to have Atmos + perfect lip sync.

Any ideas?

Re: Dolby Atmos vs lip sync issues

In Settings > Picture and sound > Sound, there is a setting for Digital audio delay HDMI. This can be changed in order to get picture and sound back in sync.

Before changing anything, make a note of the original setting so you can change it back. For my own setup (Sky Stream > Denon X3500H AVR > Sony 55XF9005 TV), a delay of 160ms has everything in sync. Your own setting will be different to this.

Try changing the setting in 5ms increments until you get picture and sound in sync. You can always change it back to the original default value if needed.

Re: Dolby Atmos vs lip sync issues

That's really helpful. Thank you. My Stream only seems to have increments of 20ms. I set it at 40 ms and that seems to have just about resolved it but I'll keep tinkering over the coming days. Thanks again.
