Another sky stream issue

I've had the Sky stream puck for 3 months and its probably the worst piece of AV equipment ive ever had.

The device ; freezes, reboots itself , sometimes wont switch on , sometimes wont switch off.

The problems are intermittent but frequent(approx once per hour) and are only solved by switching on + off at the plug.

I've checked the Netflix speed test(40Mpbs) , i've positioned the device so its got a clear line of sight to the Sky broadband router and with no other appliances within 10cm(as ive read somewhere) - the device says its got an 'Excellent wifi signal'

The only thing left to try is connecting via ethernet but ive have to buy some homeplugs as my tv isnt close enough to the router. I dont really want to go down this path.

What can i try next - ask for a new puck ? wifi extenders ?

I'd cancel but still got 21 months left of my contract .

Its frustrating as everything else streams fine(Netflix/Prime through TV , Sky through Skygo)

Hi @Sogggy

Sky say you need 25Mbps for HD and 30Mbps for UHD,  you say your puck is pulling 40Mbps. What is your overall broadband speed? If you are close to the minimum and other devices are using your WiFi you could have issues.

You can get homeplugss relatively cheaply on Amazon nowdays. Remember the Ethernet port is capped at 100Mbps so you don't need multi gig ones. Also remember that even with an ethernet connected it will try WiFi so you need to turn this off in your puck settings.

Thanks for some extra detail.

Your  Netflix speed test on the puck, is close to the lower end and may be the cause for your issues.

It maybe, that sometimes your local network from other devices usage in your household may bring down your 40Mbps wifi connection figure, which would could put some strain on the pucks performance.

Sky recommended  minimum broadband speed is 25Mbps.
Or 30Mbps if you add an extra Sky Stream puck or to watch in UHD.

Using the Sky Sports  live sync can use a few extra Mbps per puck.

If you can add an Ethernet cable or use as you mention homeplugs, that would give you some stability.

All you need is an ethernet cable, classed as cat 5 or cat 6.

If it's a long path, you could try the flat type ethernet cables that run under carpets and the like, if it makes it easier.

Assuming your not on a fibre broadband plan.

Have you looked to see if you can move to a faster broadband, with an upgrade to fibre, it's often at a similar price.

High jitter and high ping can also affect streaming performance, even if you have a decent Mbs throughput/download.
