Sky store desktop app Mac Mini HDCP error

Hi,

Purchased a rental movie from Sky Store, and tried to watch it on a couple of different devices with no success.

First off tried on Safari on my laptop. Says the browser isn't supported. Then tried on Firefox and got another error saying a problem licensing the title.

Switched to my Mac Mini, tried Firefox again, same error. Found a suggestion to download the "Sky Store desktop app".

I downloaded that, got an error saying too many devices, so I removed the listings for Firefox and tried the desktop app again.

Now I get the error "This video can only be played on displays that support HDCP, please disconnect any external cables and try again."

I'm using an LG HDMI monitor. I cannot unplug that as I'll have no screen.

Now I've changed the devices on my account, I can't try on anything else and the time is ticking on my rental.

Any suggestions?

@Tiguan19

I would get in touch with Sky Store support regarding this, they have a live chat you can use that is available from 11am-7.30pm each day and can be found here:

Thanks. I've sent them an email via the contact form. I'll jump on live chat when it's available.

Hi @Tiguan19

I'm sure @caesarome advice is the way to go - but perhaps I can add a few thoughts

I've been aware for a while of this section of the Skystore "ways to watch"

"You can also watch Buy & Keep movies and TV shows on your:
- PC/Mac
- Android/iOS using the Sky Store app
- NOW TV and Roku
- LG Smart TV (WebOS1 or above)"

This suggests to me a difference in software protection between rentals and buy & keep

I've wondered if this is because with buy and keep Sky are allowing you to view on your TV / Sky box / device - whichever you choose

For a long time - premiere rentals are known not to play nicely with casting / HDMI - so I'd be interested to know if your rental is a premiere rental.

my guess is that your problem is one of copy protection but I'm sure Skystore team will clarify

if it proves unplayable- hopefully they will be fair with a goodwill refund. Best of luck.
