I've got Sky Q. I'm using old Sky+box for freesat, why can't I still view my purchased Sky films?

I've just got Sky Q, and I'm using my old Sky+box for freesat.  My card is inserted, broadband is connected. Can someone tell me why I can't view my purchased films on my Sky+ box?

Hi @TmRR

I think the reason is that once you changed your Sky+ to freesat, although you retain the right to view those purchased movies- you can only view them on those  Sky boxes you are currently subscribed to (ie your Sky Q boxes)

edit: I changed my above suggestion to read as it does now - as I appreciate you can also view bought movies on Skystore online

my recollection is that as soon as you change an old Sky + box to freesat - you can no longer use the hard drive or other premium features

@caesarome may know more than me on this if he's around today

or you could try a livechat with the Skystore team here and they will confirm for sure

@mike+simmonds is correct in what he says here @TmRR :

You have to have an active pay subscription on a Sky box to view your purchased Sky Store films.

Thank you for responding Mike, I appreciate it.

I can understand your answer and I understand the logic.

However, I would question why would anyone would buy movies from Sky if you can't access the movie you purchased even though you remain a customer. It would be better value to purchase a DVD.

I don't expect to view Sky channels or any other channels coming under the umbrella of Sky,  but I don't think it unreasonable to be able view one's own movies, which are bought and paid for.

My box is linked to broadband and I'm sure it can't be beyond Sky to allow even an ex Sky customer to access the purchases they have made, if the customer/ex customer still have their registered Sky box and card, even if Sky charged a one of nominal fee to do so.

Hi @TmRR

If it helps -

If on your "freesat" TV you have a Chromecast or built in Chromecast (recent Sony and JVC are examples) you can cast movies from a phone / iPad to your TV

or if it's a recent LG TV you can download the Skystore app on to it
