Volume display has disapeared when set to 4K, comes back on if 1080?

Hi,

well, as the title suggests, i have lost the volume display on the tv when using Sky, iv spent hours on various things (is it the LG tv, the Denon amp, the Sky box) and i came across another film forum where someone asked did it work if i switch to 1080p on Sky...and yes it does. But as soon as i change back to 4k, it disapears (but still turns volume up and down).

The forum said Sky had reset its settings, and this has happened because of it.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how i can get it back on 4k?

Thanks

Can you provide the model of the TV and Denon receiver?

From what you've described it sounds like the receiver is passing through the 4k signal rather than processing it.

It's definitely not a Sky issue as Sky Q outputs at a fixed volume.

hi @DJ+Sonic SKY doesn't output a volume display.

From what you are saying I am guessing it is the display from your Denon Amp which overlays it's display over the image.

There is a possibility that it can't overlay a 2160p image but can on a 1080p image.

I suggest you try to see if the manual say anything or perhaps tray a search for Denon forums.

I have a Yamaha amp that does allow information to be overlayed (it doesn't overlay a volume  display as such  - although it is one of the pieces of information that can be overlayed when the appropriate display button is pressed)

Does your Denon receiver allow other information to be displayed (e.g. Audio format / Sound mode ) - perhaps try seeing if those can be displayed when watching 4K

I am sure some on here have Denon receivers so they may be to advise more specifically (perhaps you can also state which model of AMP just in case it differs between models)

Re: Volume display has disapeared when set to 4K, comes back on if 1080?

Some great answers there, thank you.

I have a Denon AVR x2400H, that has overlaid in the past, stopped about 2 weeks ago. This worked on every input i use through the amp (pc, sky) but now doesnt.

My Denon has a setting "video, allow on screen display" which is always set to on.

The tv is an LG Oled  55CX5LB55, ARC on auto

any help would be brill, thanks

Also, the volume overlay is present when im in the Denon settings , just disapears when i come out of settings (the volume overlay has always been the Denon one no matter what input through the amp i was on)

hi @DJ+Sonic I don't know if you have changed anything or this is the reason but just reading your Manual Page 77 edit Page  162 (it was ref  77  of 174 for search of Volume)  says Information such as volume cannot be overlaid  when the "Video mode" is set to "Bypass"

Edit - I also notice there is a setting (p210) to display power consumption as a meter when changing mode or volume - it is not this that you are missing is it ?

Edit (3) - I don't know how I missed this before - I also now notice on page 164 -  Volume Display has 3 options (Bottom / Top / Off) so although I doubt you have changed this,  worth checking

Although thinking about all these - it doesn't explain why doesn't show on 4K but does on 1080 ....

Maybe it is the Video Mode if set to AUTO trying to choose & using BYpass with the 4K signal - so maybe try setting to Movie as an experiment

I guess you might have - sorry you are not having any luck.

Have you tied seting the Video Mode to Movie as a test - although you might not want to leave it on that mode

BTW I noticed someone else saying their TVs volume display also has disappeared recently so I wonder if the Q160 release has done something to the signal that causes issues for overlaying graphics by other equipement (although what I woudn't know)

I can only make an (educated) guess that something has changed in the HDMI stream in regards to video processing options in Q160.

The Amp needs to decrypt and re-encrypt the signal (HDCP) if it wants to make an overlay (or other processing such as upscaling).  It's possible something has changed that only allows a passthrough where the signal is only decrypted on the TV (so no overlay can be added by the Amp).

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Maybe. It must be something that affects certain manufacturers. Like @nigea99 I have a Yamaha and that is unaffected.

Re: Volume display has disapeared when set to 4K, comes back on if 1080?

@DJ+Sonic I also have a Denon AVR x2400H - the volume overlay has never worked in UHD mode for me, regardless of Sky Q software version. Works fine in 1080i/p. I thought the manual said it couldn't overlay in UHD, this is one of the features of the next step-up model.
