Upgrading from Sky + HD to Sky Q

Hi Everyone,

We are looking at upgrading to Sky Q and were told we can keep the Sky + HD boxes to view as a freeview box once we have the Q box. Would these be able to record things from the freeview channels as well or would we only be able to view live programs?

Just double checking what our options are.

By default Sky will install a LNB that only supports Q.

The change will stop the Sky+ working.

You will need to ensure they fit a hybrid LNB with feeds for both Q and the Sky+ box.

If you switch to Q you will not be able to record on the Sky+ box.

hi @johnny1991  - I think they are not quite advising you correctly  

Please may I suggest you have a full read of some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q (sorry they are a bit long)

SKY +/HD to SKY Q

Please note the section I mention Hybrid LNBs - this would be needed to use the old SKY HD boxes and SKY are, these days, only issuing these when Freesat boxes are already in use & not generally to allow SKY HD boxes to be continue to be used.  (They seem to be generally  quite hesitant in installing Hybrid LNBs currently) 

Edit: P.S. Even with a Hybrid LNB the old SKY HD boxes will no longer allow Record/playback functionality & would only allow 'live' freesat viewing
