Sound varying on 2 new televisions

Recently bought 2 new Samsung 55" tvs connected to Sky boxes. Both have the same problem in that the sound particularly on live broadcast programmes, will suddenly go very loud and then  very soft. Problem doesn't happen with older Sony tv attached to third Sky box.

Curry's say the problem is in sound equalisation but this cannot be adjusted because tvs are connected to Sky boxes. Sky boxes don't appear to have a settings menu where this may be adjustable.

Anyone else have this problem and solution?

Richard

Sky boxes have no concept of volume.  A digital signal is sent to the TV for it to process.

I think Curry's are 'making it up'.

Try changing the output format between Normal and Dolby Digital to see if that makes any difference.

Shortly before suggesting an extended warranty, 'premium' HDMI cable, subscription to Microsoft 356 and a copy of Norton Antivirus would be appropriate solutions ; )

There could be something in what Currys (no apostrophe) are saying - the TV might be trying to do some kind of compression/normalisation of audio to balance out the quieter vs louder dynamics of the source material. And clearly not doing a very good job. I'd have a look through the TV's sound/audio menus for any kind of "smart" processing shenanagins.

Thanks.

re apostrophe, yes, you're right but there should be one there, otherwise it would be Curries (possessive vs plural). I will henceforth inwardly groan, but accept!

Re: Sound varying on 2 new televisions

Shouldn't it be Ms 365, not 356 . I already have this.
I hate Norton.
no idea where and how I'd install these

hi @Richard7546

I think you may find the post was a bit tongue in cheek referring to selling practices of additional items, not always needed, and/or  often at inflated costs

Weirdly (I had to look it up) it is actually based on someone who was called Curry so it is a bit rubbish that they didn't use one. Started his bicycle building company in 1884.

Re: Sound varying on 2 new televisions

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

I reset the sound and then switched the Dolby setting and it worked on set 1.
Then tonight tried it on set 2 (Wigan vs Hull KR - I say that because the Super League broadcasts were where the problem wasmost obvious)

Sound now doesn't vary on either set other than logically.

We're off into Currys in the morning to tell them - for info rather than malice.

So, thanks everyone.

Richard
