SkyQ Mini Boxes lose connection even when wired

I have 2 Sky Q mini boxes that are wired in to my home network, I have disabled WiFi on all boxes due to them causing an STP error on my network. Each STB is patched in to a switch in which in turn are hardwired back to a main switch.

I have isolated their network so the only devices on that VLAN are the 3 Sky STBs and Im still getting apparent network drop-outs. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my network setup and the boxes themselves are not physically losing connection as the monitoring doesnt show any drops.

However this doesnt stop these ridiculous devices from dropping their connection to the main Sky Q box and its utterly frustrating. This has to be some sort of software problem! I dont reboot them, they will just suddenly start working again after a few minutes.

hi @Woodsta77

Networks are not my area so I probably can't help but one thing that is known is that SKY Q boxes don't play nicely with Managed switches so if any of your switches are managed rather than unmanaged this could be your problem.

And they don't play nicely with unmanaged switches either as they can cause network loops. It's just poor technology,

Hi @Woodsta77

Is your Main Q box also connected by Ethernet?

If not on Sky Broadband or you have the Sky Max white router,  then all boxes need be Ethernet connected to your router.

This can be directly or through simple unmanaged switches.

Re: SkyQ Mini Boxes lose connection even when wired

Yes all 3 STBs are hard wired in to the network and all 3 of them have the WiFi disabled.

The backbone of my home network is managed L3 switches connected by 10Gb fibre so I cannot just put out unamanaged switches. There can be no legitimate reason why devices produced in the last 10 years do not work with managed switches. I have the STBs isolated on their own VLAN at the moment to see if they work any better, though so far Im not seeing an improvement. I have also disabled any inter VLAN routing on that particular network so as far as the 3 STBs are concerned they are on basic switches with no other devices sharing their network.

Re: SkyQ Mini Boxes lose connection even when wired

I just posted a similar question. I have mine on unmanaged switches and they still do it. I am curious if anybody has tried an ethernet filter to see if it helps?
