Sky q problems

So we've had sky q for 5 years now and we have wifi through BT with speeds of around 60-75, fibre not available where I live yet.

I also have a couple of miniboxes which were/are forever dropping out and needing resetting or simply pausing to reconnect.

After about 3 years or so the speeds coming through the main sky box were suddenly awful (like trying to download a film was taking forever for example and it was showing speeds of like 15 or something through the netflix check) despite the box literally being next to my rooter.  My wifi speeds continued to show 60- 70 when checked on laptop, and all other devices work fine.

I tried an ethernet cable from router to main box and that seemed to solve the main box issues but the mini boxes continued to drop out regularly or were slow to rewind etc.  Today I'd finally had enough of resetting the miniboxes and thought I'd try connecting them through ethernet too with powerlines, but unfortunately the problems persist.  I have disabled the wifi on main box and mini boxes.  Main box is fine with its ethernet connection.  Mini boxes losing connection or needing resetting regularly.

Thinking about it I probably should have contacted sky when the main sky box first started having problems, cos I'm now thinking that it's the main box where the issues lie.    As it was the main box where we first started seeing problems.

Anyway of testing my theory?  Or ideas for fixing the minibox issues.

Thanks in advance

@Whothen  What speed does the Netflix 'check' display on your Main box now that it is being fed via ethernet.

Are you connecting all your Sky Q minis and also either your router or Sky Q Main box to the new powerline devices.

What speed connections are the powerline devices reporting between each other when measured via their own app.

As an example, this is how my neighbour who has a third party Virgin Media router, has achieved a stable Sky Q setup, with the Devolo devices reporting speeds of around 150-250 between each other.

Re: Sky q problems

Thank you for responding.

My netflix speed just checked is 67.57 on main box.  My setup is very similar to your diagram except that I'm using a BT router with a TP-link 5 port desktop network switch rather than Virgin/Develo magic 2.  Hadn't heard of this tbh.  We actually have 3 mini boxes but one isn't even plugged in.  The other two are both connected via the powerlines.

Re: Sky q problems

Hi Godfrey,

Can  I please just ask,

on your setup, you have a powerline into the main sky box, does that mean your skybox is connected to your router through wifi rather than wired,  since there is only one powerline socket on the sky box?
