Sky q mini connection issue

Hi, I'm trying to connect a sky q mini for the first time and suspect it's too far from the main box (old house and reasonable distance), any idea what the range is and is there a booster available?

I assume the mini box connects via a direct link and not through Wi-Fi?

thanks!

Hi Oldfella,

one further question please, I'm not on sky broadband so do I directly connect the Ethernet cable from the back of the Sky Q to the Sky mini? Or through my network (Gigaclear)?

thanks again

Iain.

Hi @Iain65

With 3rd party broadband;  If it just the mini you are connecting by Ethernet then this needs to be to the main Q box.

If you connect all Q Boxes then it can be to the 3rd party Router

Hi @Iain65

Minis connect by WiFi to the Sky Q mesh (generated by Sky Routers and Q box.

However they can be connected by Ethernet.

If on 3rd party WiFi you ideally need to connect all Q boxes to your router if using Ethernet.

You could try first rebooting the main Q box and then when this is completely back up and running reboot the mini.
To reboot press Standby on your Sky Q remote (if the box responds to the remote), and then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your Sky Q remote or if this is not working press the standby button on the front of the Q box (Amber led)

note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.

Reboot the mini as above.
If the mini still does not connect try a Network Reset on the mini.
Network Reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to WPS with main Q box.
You will be asked to press the WPS button on the main Q box (not the mini).

If you are on Sky Broadband and the Router is nearer to the mini than the main box then you can try pressing WPS on the router instead of the main Q box.

Failing all this you could ask Sky for a Q WiFi booster to position midway between the mini and your main Q box.

Re: Sky q mini connection issue

Thank you, that's really good information, I'll try the Ethernet route first and see if this helps.
cheers, Iain.

Re: Sky q mini connection issue

Hi I have a similar problem to this. I have a sky Q box in my living room (connected to virgin hub via WiFi). I have a mini box in my kitchen connected via WiFi, all works fine. I want a mini box in my summer house (miles away from sky Q box). If I leave my existing set up as it is, and just connect a new mini box in the summer house straight to main sky Q box, via ethernet.. will it all work ? Thanks
