Sky box - using 3 at once

I have a main sky box and have bought two small sky q boxes for the bedrooms. I have been told that I cannot have the three boxes on at the same time. So how do I turn off my main sky box (downstairs) so that I can use the other two (without turning off at the mains). It doesnt work when your box is on standby so need to switch it off somehow

You haven't bought any mini boxes. They are loaned to you by Sky. If you've acquired them elsewhere they are stolen property.

You can have a maximum of 4 mini boxes loaned to you by Sky. You can watch Sky content on two minis and the main box at the same time. You may be able to use a 3rd mini box at the same time if you’re using it for one of the apps such as Netflix.
The original 1TB (non-UHD) Sky Q box only allows one mini to be in use. All 2TBs and the UHD/HDR 1TB permit two mini boxes. Each mini box which is loaned to you may be subject to a one off upfront charge but you only need one Sky Q monthly Multiscreen subscription.

Re: Sky box - using 3 at once

Hi

Okay I have got them from Sky so they are legit.  I have multiroom on my account. I was told the other day by sky that the problem can be resolved by upgrading my original box. Have just spoke to another advisor who said this was wrong. A new box wont make any difference. I was told that if I want to watch sky on both the TV's upstairs at the same time, then I need to switch off the main box downstairs. I just don't know how to do this without switching off at the mains, which I assume will stop any recordings that may be taking place. I simply don't know how to swicth it off. I have just spent an hour on the phoe with an advisor who said to switch off using the remote, but when I do this it just goes into standby mode.

And when it's in standby mode you can't watch both minis? Probably true. Think it's one mini plus the Q if you're on the old 1TB box.

The advisor who told you a box uograde wouldn't let you use 2 minis AND the Q at the same time was wrong.

The main Q box always counts as being 'in use' because without it Mini boxes cannot function.

Putting it into standby has no effect on Mini boxes.

Re: Sky box - using 3 at once

Well after being told three different things by three different advisors, it turns out that I cannot use the two mini boxes at the same time without upgrading my main box at a cost of £99. Never mind that I have just spent 2 x £50 on the mini boxes and have been with them for over 15 years. Should have been told this when I looked into buying the second mini box, but the member of staff forgot to mention it. Only other option is to cancel the second mini box and ask for a refund.

You should lodge a formal complaint. Sky advisers need to be better trained in how the products they are selling actually work. You have been told incorrect information and been inconvenienced because of it. At the very least they should offer you an upgraded main Q box at no extra charge.
