I suspect other threads have discussed this topic.
I have a Sky Q box connected to my smart television.
I have Bt broadband and my current BT smart hub 2 router is not working so I currently have no broadband until
i get a new BT router.
I can still watch live tv on my television via my Sky Q box and record programmes..
I can not get anything else including catch up television and Apps. When I click on Catch Up or Apps, a message comes up saying I am not connected to broadband etc.
Is the above all correct.
Thank goodness I do not have one of the new Sky Streaming boxes Then I would be in real trouble.

Yes thats all correct.
Live TV on Sky Q is by satelite feed so would not be affected by broadband issues, whereas as you have found, catchup, on demand and apps (Netflix, Prime, Disney et al) are streamed through your broadband, so these would not work until you get your new router.
As you have guessed (removed) if you had Sky Stream puck or Glass as this does indeed stream via broadband and wont work without it.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreAs you have surmised, all those services run over broadband, they can't work over the one way satellite transmission.
I always keep a spare router in a cupboard in case mine fails one day. Only had it happen once in 20 years though 🙂

I assume you are saying that I am correct.
I can only watch live channels and record programmes. Nothing more until I get a new BT smart hub 2 router,
By the way. On average how many years do these BT routers usually last.
