Sky Q lost connection to satellite channels in heavy rain

I am new to Sky Q after only being on various other Sky boxes for 22 years. Losing the channels at first heavy storm was very disappointing and something I hadn't seen for years since going to a 2tb Sky HD box. Isn't this a case of the cables not being well enough water tight at the LNB so the signal strength falls of when wet?

This allowed me to see another disappointing 'feature', when we played Strictly from the catchup menu it didn't start to play after a couple of minutes and wanted to download the whole thing first. Swapping oner to IPlayer on the TV and we could watch ut straight away. Is this a known bug?

Hi @Old+Baldy

Heavy cloud cover and Storm clouds will block satellite signals.   Nothing you can do about.   Provided you have full channel cover in clear Skys it is unlikely to be a dish issue..

No known bug in downloading as far as I am aware.

Try rebooting your Q box as first step.

To reboot press Standby on your Sky Q remote (if the box responds to the remote), and then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your Sky Q remote or if this is not working press the standby button on the front of the Q box (Amber led)

note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.

hi @Old+Baldy

SKY Q is slightly more sensitive to weather than the old HD boxes but not significantly - when you switched they would have changed the LNB (the electronic bit on the dish) and quite likely changed the dish.

It is possible that the engineer did not align it as well as they could, so if you are finding you are loosing signal during what you think may be lighter cloud then you may need to contact SKY to get them to check the alignement. Don't forget, though it is affected by the cloud in between the dish and the Sateliite and not directly overhead

It is not likely to be due to water ingress as that would last far longer than heavy cloud - water ingress more likely to  need a box restart due to a short in the DC voltage

Regarding the download - selecting anything from catch up (or On demand) on SKY Q initiates a download. - it doesn't launch any Catch up apps

This is different to going to the live channel and then selecting the Watch from Satrt that pops up when part way through where, for BBC channels only, it will transfer you to iPlayer - For other channels it will also initate downloads
