Sky Q dish installation issue

Hi,

We had a Sky engineer visit 2 weeks ago to install Sky Q.  We have Sky plus but unable to record and turn over as we lose the signal so needed to upgrade. Our dish is on the chimney (since 2007) and the engineer who was helpful took photos and sent to his  team (I presume the specialist height team) but they came back and said  they cannot access the chimney due to H&S.

The only option although still not confirmed if it can work, is to put a dish at the back of the house -  but due to where our tv is in the back room it means running the cables via the vent outside into the cellar and up through the floor where our current tv is.  The engineer said it would mean having the main box in the back room and the mini box in the front room.  He said this is not really an issue in terms of the box and recording.

The engineer also looked at putting a dish to the front of the house but said the line of sight would be an issue.  He did mention also erecting a pole but we are not keen on this idea and again he mentioned the line of sight could be an issue.  

Can someone advise please re. the line of sight ?.  We live in an ordinary end of terrace house (but attached with neighbours gardens down the side of the house) but there are no big trees in the way.  A neighbour opposite the front of our house had a sky dish installed at the front of his house  so I struggle to understand why our house is so different?  

He said Sky would call me but i havent heard anything.

We don’t want Sky stream or glass so it seems we have to leave Sky and go somewhere else.  It's very frustrating.

If the neighbour opposite has their dish on the front of their property, then logically yours needs to be on the back of yours in order to point in the same direction. 

All Sky (and Freesat) dishes do have to be looking at exactly the same orbital location to function because there's only one satellite cluster putting a television signal over the UK and Ireland.

You could probably get an independent installer to fit the Q compatible dish / LNB then have Sky come back to fit the Q

it may be fun explaining to Sky what you want.

Was very simple for me on that score. The independant installed a hybrid LNB for my dish (Sky no longer offer this, hence my plan). Then when Sky came, all the Sky technician needed to do was check the signal on the meter, and then connect the two satellite feed cables up to the new Sky Q box. No need to go outside in the snow to do anything!
