Sky Q connections

Hi, I need to know if the sky Q box has the same connections (for plug, cables etc), as it will be impossible to change if not. Also, I had an email telling me I could upgrade to it for free and my TV package would stay the same, no extra costs, but when I look on my vip thing, it wants to charge more for have sky Q. Hoping someone can help, thanks.

hi @Miss+Thing

It depends on what connections you do actually have & the state of them.

If you have a SKY HD box with 2 cables from the dish then the chances are that these can be reused - if you only have one then it needs to be replaced by a twin cable (or a new added - less likely)

SKQ  Q connects to the TV via an HDMI cable - which you may already be using but it does not have the old 'TV arial' (aka RF) connections

Often to get the exact offer made in the email you need to call SKY

I will also point you at some notes I have put together for people considering moving :

SKY +/HD to SKY Q

Re: Sky Q connections

It's a sky+ box, so has 2 cables and an hdmi cable to the TV already.

Thank you.

Fairly simple swap.  The LNB on the dish needs to be replaced but Sky will do this upon upgrade.

Can only guess you mean the same as Sky+.

Yes, it needs two dish connections, an HDMI cable between the box and your TV, and an ethernet connection (or wifi) to broadband. Some Sky Q box models use an external power brick. I'm not sure if they're still in circulation (but I don't think you would get one of them anyway as part of the free upgrade).

Call Sky and let them know you want to take the free upgrade option. Make sure that what you'll be getting meets your needs!

Edited to add: late with reply - got sidetracked!

Re: Sky Q connections

@Mark39

Hi, yeah, we have WiFi... and the little external box as our sky+ box didn't have an intregrated WiFi connection at the time.

Thank you.

@Miss+ThingOften Sky provide a 1TB non UHD box with the free upgrade, if you are happy with this fine if however you want UHD Sky may charge extra. Also your existing HDMI cable may need upgrading for UHD if you need it.

@bob1234

Hi, I think I'm going to ponder a while longer about switching boxes. However, our HDMI cable isn't that old, we got new ones when we bought our smart TV, so they should be fine I think.

Thank you.
