Sky Q Mini TP Link Deco Issues

Hello,

I’ve recently set up a TP-Link Deco mesh system for our Wi-Fi, and after a couple of days I noticed that our Sky Q Mini box has been intermittently losing its wireless internet connection. After doing some Googling, I found that others have experienced similar issues, but I couldn’t find any clear solutions.

I’d prefer not to use an Ethernet cable between the Deco and the Sky Q Mini as that wouldn’t be convenient, so I’m hoping to avoid that if possible. The only temporary fix I’ve found so far is turning off both the Deco Wi-Fi (at the wall) and the Sky Q box, then turning them back on again.

Any help appreciated!

@Calum17 Sky Q minis can only connect by WiFi to devices that support Sky Q's wifi mesh therefore you cannot get a stable connection to your Deco WiFi. If you want to use WiFi use wps and connect to your main Sky Q box. Sky can supply boosters if the mini wont connect properly. Alternatively use an Ethernet connection to the Deco.

The mini has to talk direct to the Q. It is not using the deco mesh. Yes it's ridiculous.

Re: Sky Q Mini TP Link Deco Issues

Thanks for your reply. Just so I understand properly, what do you mean by a main Q box, is that our Sky broadband Hub?

Do you know how I would go about identifying a 3rd party router that supports Sky Q's wifi mesh?

@Calum17 the main Q box would normally be the bigger Q box that most people would have in their living room that the sayelitte cables attach too

No third party router would support the Sky Q mesh only the Sky Q hub or Broadband hub routers support the Q mesh

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

And only the older black Sky routers. The modern white ones do not.

Re: Sky Q Mini TP Link Deco Issues

Well thats a shame! Thanks though... I don't know if its just our property or what but we don't have satelittes/antenna cables for our sky set up. We just got a Q mini and the hub.

And sky boosters can also form part of that mesh.

I was wrong when I said they have to connect direct to the Q because you're on Sky broadband. In that case they can connect to the router and but still not, I don't think, via a mesh.

On a 3rd party ISP they can't even connect via the router, it has to be direct.

Re: Sky Q Mini TP Link Deco Issues

I can turn the 5ghz off on the Deco and see if that helps at all but it looks like I'll need to return it as its caused more problems than solved sadly.

I think you're right, I'm assuming this doesn't change anything?

Yes, its networking is completely different from Q. It should work fine with the Deco afaik, but maybe ask in the Stream forum.

Re: Sky Q Mini TP Link Deco Issues

I have a Deco XE75 pro mesh system connected to the white sky router and have no issues with the main Q box connecting to the mini.

Re: Sky Q Mini TP Link Deco Issues

I have the black Sky router however,  I have set the Deco up to be its own router. Its not plugged into my Sky router, its wired direcetly into my ONT.
