Sky Q Download Speed is Slow

My Sky Q main box takes an age to download movies, TV, anything.

My broadband speed is 68Mb with Plusnet. Sky broadband cancelled on me because you couldn't achieve the contracted speed.

The main box has been connected via ethernet as it refuses to connect to the Plusnet router over WiFi. There is a good line of sight between the sky box and router.

All my other devices and Smart TVs have no problems with connection speed.

Hi @SPH501   I'm afraid that there is very little we can recommend apart from try power rebooting everything. The fact that other devices work fine with your broadband a reboot of your Router will refresh the DNS used by Sky Q. It has to be something your end. Perhaps if you tell us a specific download together with full details like format, series and episode we can confirm it is not Sky's end.

Go into Netflix and down to 'get help' then 'test my connection', that will give you a speed test to the box.

Have you checked the speed from another connected device? If the problem when you had Sky was with the Open Reach system then you'll still have it with Plusnet or was it more to do with WiFi?

Odd, my Q box Netflix does 180 odd Mbps (I think that was the figure) from a VM 280-290Mbps connection (both PC & Q box tested hardwired).

Have you diabled the WiFi on the Q box via the SKY Q hidden menu?

-Press the ‘Home’ button on your remote control
-Scroll down to ‘Settings’ and DO NOT press select
-Press ‘001’
-Press ‘Select’

Goto network and switch off both bands and confirm before exit

Reboot the Q box

If the above doesn't help then perhaps try a different cable and/or port on the router?

Hi @SPH501   What happens if you swap over the Ethernet from the TV and Sky Q box.

Re: Sky Q Download Speed is Slow

Disabled WiFi, changed the port on the router. Speed went up to a stunning 10Mbps! Basically it didn't make any difference.

Going to try a soft reset (reset settings) next.

Didn't seem to make any difference but it deleted all my apps 😄

Re: Sky Q Download Speed is Slow

Hmmm. There is a thought. Ethernet cable into laptop, slow speed.

Current diagnosis is a dodgy cat 5 cable.
