Sky Q 10 bit

Hello.

i have recently purchased a Hisense 75u7kqtuk model which does include HDR and Dolby Vision

When watching via the telly apps the HDR/Dolby Vision formatts are picked up absolutely fine yet when using Sky Q it will only format to 8 bit and refuses to switch to 10 bit when looking at viewing HDR in this format - I have a 8k HDMI cable and previously had an OLED and it worked fine - is it problem with Sky and Hisense or the TV just doesn't work well with Sky?

Re: Sky Q 10 bit

Thanks All. Managed to change the HDMI setting to Advanced 4K and I can now get 10 bit and HDR - happy days 🙂

That's because the TV is 8 bit + FRC not a true 10 bit panel.

Re: Sky Q 10 bit

Ah ok - so why is it sold as a HDR if it cannot deliver this format? Or am I missing the point?

That is down to Sky and its use of HLG HDR, it won't display it on Q unless it beleieves it is connected to a 10 bit panel.

8 bit + FRC basically guesses the missing bits to present colour like a true 10bit panel. OLEDs like your previous TV are almost always 10 bit, anything LED based is 8 + FRC.

Have you tried selecting 10 bit rather than letting the Q box choose?

Actually, you might just need to ensure 10 bit colour is turned on for the HDMI on your new TV, have you checked in settings? It's usually called "HDMI Deep Colour" or similar.

Turning it on will make Q believe it is a 10 bit panel.

It should work. It supports HLG and I can't imagine that's only on the internal apps. 8bit+FRC displays (if this is one) can still accept a 10bit source, otherwise what colours would they know they need to modulate?

Does it have some sort of "deep colour" type option on the hdmi input settings?
