SKYQ CHANGE TO SKY GLASS

Good Morning All

I am thinking of changing from skyq to sky glass, but i have 3 questions that is stopping me from going ahead with the change,

1) Will i lose any of my recording from skyq, when sky glass is installed ?

2) Will i lose any films i have purchased within sky store ?

3) Which sky glass is better (air or 2nd gen) ?

Yes - all recordings on SKY Q are stored on the local Hard drive and thus not available when you change (It is the same if the box fails or have to swap the box for any reason).

You may be able to stream content that is still available via Catch up

2) Will i lose any films i have purchased within sky store ?

No - you will still be able to watch these although they will be streamed rather than played from a local hard disc

3) Which sky glass is better (air or 2nd gen) ?

The SKY Glass Air is a budget friendly TV and is thus lower spec.

The SKY Glass  Gen 2 is much higher spec but costs more & from what I have read contains some good improvements over the Gen 1

I think there are now several reviews available on the net for you to research more

Note SKY Glass (& Stream) are different to SKY Q - some customers do not get on with it but many do

You may also wish to consider SKY Stream  & using your existing TV(s)  - SKy Glass Tvs can be rather  restrictive should you stop subscribing

@Remmie71 A few other things to know:

1. Sky Glass has fewer channels on it than Q. Make sure you're not going to lose access to a channel you watch regularly before you commit to buying.

2. Though Glass can connect via WiFi, it is better to use an ethernet cable between the router and Glass (turning WiFi off in the Settings and Network Standby to On). Relying on WiFi might drive you mad - as it did me the first week I had Glass!

3. Glass relies on a internet speed of 25 Mbps for HD and 30 Mbps for UHD content. That speed can be affected by demand from other devices trying to use the internet at the same time, so check your broadband meets this requirement before you buy.

Other than that I agree Glass is the better product to buy than Glass Air. I've owned both Generations of Glass and can confirm the Gen Two has improved on the Gen One. The Glass Air is not really a main TV but a bedroom TV really!

It may also be worth you going along to any store that sells Glass to see it in action before you buy. It is an expensive purchase after all.

Setting up Glass is easy but it is a two person job to put it on the stand, unless you either pay for or qualify for free premium delivery, in which case the delivery men will do that for you.

If you intend to wall mount the TV, the Glass wall mount must be bought at the same time you order Glass. It can't be purchased later. However VESA wall mounts are compatible - just make sure they can handle the weight.

Sorry for the late reply, the things you have mentioned in your reply has made stop & think, even though i don't watch all the channels on skyq I didn't realise you would lose some on glass, using the ethernet cable does make sense, but now after reading the replies I don't think it's for me or worth it, like you said I would be paying out a lot of money, having to check my WiFi speed etc it would drive me crazy trying to sort all this out, all the advice has been so helpful, thank you

Don't bother I've just installed it today and I'm sending it back tomorrow you lose everything and you can't record anything it all goes on a plus button and it can go from there also so I'm going straight back to sky q

Always do the research, it's always been widely reported that Stream and Glass have no recording option. Whilst this seems to be the way forward, it's not yet for everyone, (me included). 
For the time being I'm holding on to my SkyQ, that said I'm finding I am starting to stream more and more. I think we know the way this is heading.

First reply in this (old) thread says you lose your recordings. This is also basic logic since the recordings are physically inside the Q box. And that Glass has no ability to record although people can miss that detail.

Not true that you lose "everything" as you keep your sky store purchases.
