SKY Q Multibox question

Hello everyone.

My Dad (78) lives in a bungalow and is about to get SKY Q so he can watch the TV in his room as well as the front room. (He is more comfy in there).

He has been told, (NOT by SKY I add), that the person who will install the SKY Q box will need to get on his roof and this has worried him for some reason.

He gets SKY via his cable with his internet. Is there any reason at all someone would need to get up in his bungalow roof in order to have Multibox installed? I dont see why it is necessary, its not a big bungalow.

Anyway, thought I ould ask, thanks for any advice

Sky Q is a satellite service so a dish will need to be affixed to the house. Sky will supply and install this but they won't go onto a roof (Health & Safety). They will need to secure a ladder to a wall to place the dish in the appropriate position to get the signal.

Sky isn't supplied by cable. What Sky TV service does he currently have (if any)?

He currently has an HD box, one of the old flat ones that sits in his front room.

Will whatever supports that support the new Sky Q box?

Then the original dish (if in a suitable position) will be used and the LNB on it will be changed. He doesn't get Sky+HD through a cable.

Some people do get SKY via Cable which is known as a Communal system - this is usually for apartment blocks but occasionally some housing estates  & others also get such a feed. 

It sounds like your dad may get this. If so all the talk of a local dish is irrelevant.

(There is a dish but this is separate to the individual properties & not altered for for SKY Q)

Some of these systems - especially more modern ones - are SKY Q compatible but others may need to have an 'adapter' fitted to be able to work with Q  - I am guessing, but not sure, that if an adapter is needed it would be fitted  in a cupboard where the cable enters the property.

SKY +/HD to SKY Q 

To watch in a second room he will need a multiroom sub with a SKY mini  - these are connected to the main box via wifi or ethernet & not connected directly to the SKY feed via cable.
