I'm paying £9.50 a month for  mini boxes (£15 before discounts) but rarely use them,  Is it possible to turn off/on on a monthly basis - depending when grandchildren come to stay using the online manage package option ? Or will Sky request the boxes back as soon as I cancel.

You had added to a thread in the Sky+ board so I've moved it. No you can't do what you suggest. If you cancel Multiscreen Sky will indeed request the return of all loaned mini boxes.
