Problem with 3 Zyxel NR5103E 5g router Firmware upgrade last weekend

Hi

3 upgrade their router firmware  on the NR 5103e V1.00(ACBJ.0)b14 sometime overnight 16-17th Sept.

Went to watch the F1 on my Q box on sunday afternoon and noticed the homepage error message regarding no intenet. Everything else is working and a speed test of every port on the network switch adjacent to my Sky Q box was over 200Mb/sec.

However my router would not allocate an IP despite going through every test  during my 4 hours of telephone calls with the Sky.

Sky sent an engineer out who was talking to his technical support who inturn was talking to the systems analysts at sky  who are trying to resolve this issue. After an hour and half I was told it is something sky is working on to resolve.

I called 3 today and after trying to convince then we had reset and rebooted everything repeatedly I was put through to the next tier of tech support. The tech reset my router and after having rebooted my router attempted connection again. I connect via 60m of Cat 6  ethernet cable as my house is very long and the router is at one end for connectivity  to 5g and my sky Q box at the other end.

This time it connected to my router however the connection to the internet dropped out repeatedly. I looked at the manual settings for the network I noted the automatically assigned settings for the router IP and the DNS server were the same ..i.e., 192.168.1.1 which was incorrect. I then manually changed the DNS server to 0.0.0.0.  and it now works OK.

Hope this helps anyone with the same problem as I understand its not just me. The techsupport guy who the sky engineer was talking to knew the router model as he had dozens of calls about he same thing.. I dont quite know what the network reset the tech from 3 did but is worked partially anyway as I had ot manually set the DNS

That's somewhat odd: having the same setting for router IP and DNS might well be correct (it just means the router is the first DNS resolver being queried), but 0.0.0.0 definitely isn't as that's not a legitimate IP address.

I goess it's possible that on that particular model router setting 0.0.0.0 is effectively a passthrough, but most models wouldn't accept it as a setting.
