Pair remote

I can't pair my new sky q remote to my tv. I've tried 7 and 9 to reset and 1 and 3. The red light flashes but it doesn't allow me to do anything else

Is it pairing with the Q ok first?

and this has to be done line of sight, is the Q box out in the open?
