Not allowed ?

I came across a second hand electrical shop in a small costal town which has a Sky Q box plus cables and remote for £50.

Surely this is not allowed .

Q boxes are loaned for the duration of the contract.  Generally, Sky ask for them to be returned at the end of the subscription.

However, some older boxes they were requesting to be returned.  (As they could be be redeployed)

But many may say the box may be 'stolen property' as even paying the non-return fee does not transfer ownership.

AIUI it may just be as useful as a brick.

Will it function in any way at all ?

Sky will not provide a viewing card.  I'm not sure if it works for freeview channels (I thought they didn't).

No, but presumably the vendor is unaware of that.
