Netflix - Sky have taken over and downgraded subscription

Hi

I already have a Standard HD (no ads) sub with Netflix direct and watch it through the app on Sky. Yesterday I signed up to a new 18 month deal with Sky (already a customer) - nothing was mentioned about Netflix on the phone call, but when I tried to access it earlier, it asked me to link my existing account to Sky and I've now been set up with the plan that has ads (so a downgrade to my existing package).

Couple of questions

Do I have to have this linked to Sky? I'm happy with keeping them separate

If I do link it with Sky, is is then tied into the 18 month contract, i.e. can I cancel it at anytime without penalty, like I can if subscription is direct with Netflix, rather than through Sky?

thanks!

claire

No you don't

and netflix on sky is a "booster" so you are paying twice although they might have given you some kind of discount that negates that.

If you use the Netflix app on a Q box, Glass television or Stream puck and have a Sky subscription product with bundled Netflix ('Ultimate TV') then yes: logging into the Netflix app on Sky hardware causes Netflix billing to switch to Sky.  On Q you may be able to avoid this by specifying 'Signature' rather than 'Ultimate TV' as the baseline Sky product: there's no option on Glass/Stream.

Note that all new Netflix subscriptions, whether bundled or direct, now start at 'Standard with Ads'.

@Chodley

The difference is whether or not Ultimate TV is the baseline subscription.  While in theory 'Signature' (no bundled Netflix) is still available on Q I believe it stopped being the default for online orders last year.

Edit: a quick look at the Q order page shows no option for (or even mention of) 'Signature'.  Apparently everyone now gets Netflix Standard with Ads in their baseline bundle, without the previous 'Ultimate TV' branding.
