My sky Q box is completely dead internet gone . Thursday afternoon to be seen.

My sky box Q box cut out completely during the storm it went with a loud bang and a flash.  The box is dead checked the fuse that's ok to make matters worse my router is showing only to lights and I have no internet only my mobile to get online. Pay over well over £100 monthly can't get to speak to a human an automated voice telling me earliest date Thursday 21 st afternoon before anyone can look. It will then be explained to me that a third party will have to deal with the internet. Not impressed.

Quite possibly: a thunderstorm with groundstrikes and consequent current spikes will hugely increase Sky and Openreach workloads

It will then be explained to me that a third party will have to deal with the internet.

Yes, that would have to be Openreach: ISPs are not permitted to work on Openreach infrastructure.

@Rosesskyaccount

After the storms of yesterday and early this morning getting an engineer as early as this Thursday is very good imo. Openreach will deal with the internet as you are using their infrastructure.

@TimmyBGood  and @Daniel0210  both are correct when you point out that the storm we had was exceptional, so a date of the 21st this Thursday was pretty good. However, consider these factors which I believe is the position of many users and one sky is working towards. Everything I use to live in the 21st century is with sky. My TV completely controled by sky now with the Sky Q box having access to all the TV apps, Netflix, Prime, BBC iplayer, to name just a few. Also recordings going back years special recordings that will now be lost, note sky don't provide any means of backup. Then there is the issue of Internet which provides everything else including my main Email account. Question is the sky router locked in with Sky Q? Turning to a different router I managed to restore Internet so my PC is working again and I can now access Emails. Trying to do everything on a mobile isn't easy most of the time it's running on my home network anyway.4 days might appear short but when ALL access to everything is gone it feels like a age. Trouble is a smart TV ain't too smart without Internet access.  I think the future for me is not putting all my eggs in one basket. Or maybe finding another provider that feels 4 days without everything is too long.

You are unlikely to find a better response time at domestic subscription rates, particularly with any ISP using the Openreach network: the 12-hour callout 'guarantee' on our business site broadband costs us around £180 a month.

Personally I choose to pay BT Broadband a significant premium to have failover to cellular data, although I suspect the equipment for that would have been killed by a lightning-induced surge just as dead as the Hub would be.

And I pay a fibre ISP 60% of your total costs just to get a very reliable locally managed service.

There is no way Sky will ever provide a backup of everyone's 2TB of recordings without a hefty price premium. You seen how much Apple charge for that much storage in iCloud? Recordings on Q are never meant to be a permanent archive, much as many of us have got used to treating them like that.

And I suspect they would be on legally thin ice if they ever tried to do so: recording to local hard drive for the purpose of time-shifting viewing is a limited exemption to copyright law: the same is not true for a 'cloud' service, which is one reason the Glass/Stream 'recording' experience is so poor by comparison.
