Re: Losing more channels

That argument works for pay channels that have closed or gone free like MTV Music and TLC, but the That's music channels are completely free to air so you aren't losing anything from your Sky subcription when they close.

Re: Losing more channels

I pay a basic rate for those "free channels" I choose to pay extra for other channels yes, but id still be paying something even if i didnt pay for the extra ones. Sky is hardly free view is it 🤨

Umm, yes it does, as you have Sky Q if you pulled your viewing card out of the box any FTA channels would still be viewable, hence the term Free To Air = No Encryption = No Subs to view them.

Free To View Means the channel is soft encrypted to stop viewing outside a specific territory and becomes unlocked with a valid viewing card which means you're still not paying for it through a subscription.   In the old analogue days a Videocrypt decoder either built in or onboard would simply decrypt such channels (as an example Channel 5 on analogue Astra 19e was soft encrypted to stop viewers across Europe from viewing the channel where as UK viewers need a decoder or receiver with inbuilt decoder, nothing more).

Re: Losing more channels

Well thanks  for that explanation, but either way im still annoyed at losing more channels and no obvious plan to replace them, my post wasn't really about dropping the price, more venting at losing more channels

It's not up to Sky to replace any channels that have closed, who do you think should be replacing them?

Re: Losing more channels

Actually just been emailed about a legacy discount, so thank you sky, they do look after their customers, been with them over a decade, as I said I was just being reactive to finding out we are losing more channels

Re: Losing more channels

Well sky has many services now and the ability to create their own channels, so sky should, create a music channel that won't be taken from them and keep it in their control

@Razzle+berry  Music channels are closing because of low viewership, Sky/Comcast certainly won't throw good money away to appease the miniscule audience who want these channels.

So no it's not up to Sky to replace faling channels, most music is consumed online on services such as Spotify,  Amazon,Youtube etc.

To expect Sky to pick up the slack is unreasonable.

Re: Losing more channels

Fine I might be old fashioned and like to watch music channels aswell as online streaming, you asked me a question who do I think should replace them I answered, whether sky does or not is up to them, im not being unreasonable thinking sky have the means to replace these channels, again whether they do or not is up to them 🤷‍♀️

@Razzle+berry

No, Sky isn't going to launch any Sky-branded music channels (they've never had any) and the financial headroom for anyone else to do so is extremely limited: if it does happen then it's likely to be on the Sky streaming platforms rather than satellite because online service is just cheaper to distribute to a very small audience, and satellite broadcasting is approaching end of life anyway.
