Hi,
I am having trouble contacting a Sky Q mini.
I have a TP-Link Wi-Fi extender which means my Wi-Fi is a meshed network which my Sky Q and one mini box are connected to.
I have an office in an outbuilding which has Wi-Fi but through a feed that goes directly to my EE router (ie not through the Mesh). I am trying to connect a mini box to the office too.
I have tried reverting all to the EE router but the Sky Q box loses connection regularly....even though it in only located 1.5 metres from the router. It never lost connection to the Mesh.
Any ideas as to how I could get all 3 boxes working seamlessly?

Hi @Ridoves
It would seem that you have 3 WiFi networks
Not a good scenario for connecting Q boxes.
You say

Exactly what is this 'feed' and what is generating the WiFi?

Thank you for your reply.
I can switch the EE router Wi-Fi off if that's an issue.
The feed into the office comes into a TP Link access switch then onto a Wi-Fi access point.
I have however tried it direct into an Ethernet socket in the office to no avail and keep getting the message that I t can't find my Sky Q on the network.

What is this feed???
Is it an Ethernet cable to your router?

is this the same Ethernet as above
How many TP access points do have and do they have an Ethernet socket?

Yes it is an Ethernet cable direct to the router.
The Sky Box is going into a separate Ethernet socket which is linked to the primary one in the office.
I have just checked both Ethernet sockets are live with my laptop.

Ok @Ridoves
You didn't answer my Question about the TP Access points? Are they Powerline ?
If they are and you have multiple units and they have Ethernet sockets you could do the following.
Base unit at your router.
One at main box one at mini both connected by Ethernet.
Mini in the Outbuilding connected by Ethernet (using an Ethernet switch so you can still use your WiFi Extender.
When all boxes are connected by Ethernet you can then switch off all Q box WiFi.
Start with main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router (or Sky router if on Sky Broadband). Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.
Repeat the network reset on any minis in the Mini Home menu with the Ethernet connected. Again do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.
Once it is connected go into the mini hidden menu (same procedure as above) and turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Sorry....I really appreciate your help and inadvertently missed the answer on the access points. Only the base access point in the main house has an Ethernet socket next to it. So the Mini Box in the kitchen connects via Wi-Fi. If I switch off Wi-Fi, I will lose this Mini box I guess?
It is a TP Link Deco system which is Powerline as far as I know.

Hi @Ridoves
Afraid you need all boxes on Ethernet for the procedure Iisted.
It wouldn't work with the main Q box connected by a different method to the mini.

Thank you for your advice.
if I put the sky box directly into the router, the office mini box into the Ethernet feeding into the router and the other mini box into the router's direct wifi, would this work?
I would switch the TP Link extender off and try to make do without it....

No @Ridoves
Assuming the main Q box is Ethernet directly into router
You would still need the other mini on Ethernet (or Powerline Ethernet) into the router.
All boxes must be connected to the same Network (your router) and by the same Method (Ethernet or Ethernetted Powerline)

Really appreciate your help and how responsive you are.
good to know for sure that I will need to re-think the current set up and I'm not missing anything.

Hi @Ridoves
What you need is two Powerline units.
One located near and Ethernet connected to your router.
One located at and Ethernet connected to the mini.
If your main Q box is nearer to the mini than your router you could connect the Powerline unit there. You would need a simple unmanaged Ethernet switch there so that you can connect the main Box Ethernet (from router) and the Powerline Ethernet.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreKey thing here is - if your broadband is not with Sky then none of your minis will use your Deco mesh to talk to the Q. It's a pain in the backside. So as oldfella says, ethernet throughout (which can be via powerline) is the only option.
some people have managed to get minis connected into mesh nodes via ethernet and then piggyback the wifi that way but since your garden room is not on that wifi mesh anyhow that's not going to work here.
