HLG Pitch Colour Issues On Football

Does anyone know why the left side of the screen is always brighter green when football (or any grass) is displayed on Sky Sports HLG HDR?

Before Im accused of it being an issue on my side, Im on my third TV now (an LG G5 OLED) in an issue to resolve it and Im getting sick of sending them back. First it was a Samsung QN90f, then an LG C5 and now and LG G5 and still the problem persists, no matter which settings or picture mode I choose.

Is it a limitation of HLG on the fly technology or an issue known to Sky engineers?

Any feedback (apart from blaming something basic my end like changing the cable or HDMI input whatever) appreciated. You'd think a brand new OLED that cost well over a grand and a month old Sky Q box would be good enough.

I've not seen such an issue reported on the forum previously.  (Most issues are general brightness)

Given what you've done this would indicate an issue with the Q box?

Thanks for replying! Its a consideration, but if I called up Sky and said why is the grass greener and brighter on the left side of the screen they'd think I was losing the plot.

I think its a limitation of on-the-fly SDR to HDR conversion using HDR or something but I agree not many other people seem to mention it.

@SeekPerf  I concur with @PandJ2020 , it does seem to indicate you may have a faulty SKY Q box

Which model box do you have :

Home - Settings - System Info - Hardware Version

If it is 32B1xxx then you have a (V2) UHD HDR 2TB Box (which has a separate Power supply)
If it is 32B2xxx then you have a (V3) UHD HDR 1TB or 2TB Box

if it is the latter (V3) then perhaps you try a comparison with other Green content by using the BBC iPlayer's UHD Green Planet series - & compare using the iPlayer app on your Tv and the SKY Q box

(Unfortunately the V2 boxes do not have a UHD capable version of iPlayer)

I'm sure someone would have reported such an obvious issue...

...for the whole screen, possibly.  Not for just the left.

Can you post a photo?

Re: HLG Pitch Colour Issues On Football

Theres no reason it couldn't be one part of the screen because HLG transmits metadata on the fly (like HDR 10+ and DV, unlike HDR10) so its more likely an adaptive contrast type issue and theres no logical reason it would be a Sky box problem. There are mentions of grass colour issues around but like I say, I was pretty aware Id be accused of it being an issue on my side when after 3 of the best TVs money can buy show the issue its clearly not. Hopefully Sky can rectify the issue soon.

Re: HLG Pitch Colour Issues On Football

Its v3 and iPlayer programmes gave already been encoded so it isnt comparable to real time live broadcasts. Obviously if I turn the brightness down its not as noticeable, and its likely  lesser TVs dont pick up the flaw but it definitely seems to be a Sky issue. DV for example displays perfectly and it cant be a panel issue (or even OLED as the QN90F is neo QNED) if three in a row have the same issue that my entire (non-technological) family can see..

@SeekPerf

Have you actually tried the iplayer content  to compare the box vs TV ?

(I do appreciate this is slightly different to a live feed but it will help identify it is the box when using HLG)

BTW I don't watch the football when I did check in it when I posted earlier & the image was even. If it was a broadcast issue, others would have reported it but that does not rule out a box issue.

Obviously any pics you can take will help

AIUI HLG doesn't use metadata.  (Which is why it's suitable for live broadcast and simulaneous compatibilty with SDR and HDR displays)

True

This is an odd sounding effect. A pic would be useful
