Free Sky cinema trial

Just received an email offering 4 week trial of Sky Cinema FOC, after the 4 weeks is up it's £6 a month unless I cancel. Small print says 31 days notice to cancel. Now maths was never my strongest point but this doesn't make sense, does it: a 28 day free trial that I have to cancel 3 days before I subscribe or I get charged. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔

Re: Free Sky cinema trial

I got this as well, and would'nt mind a free month of movies, absolutly not going to pay and will 100% cancel, but I agree, if I cancel on the day I take the trial, it'll be 3 days over and I'll have to then pay £6?!?

I'm sure the 31 days notice is from when you start paying isn't it???

Can anyone clarify?

Re: Free Sky cinema trial

I normally just pass up these offers. As nice as the temporary perks are, it’s not obvious or a simple task to cancel once the offer/trial is over.

Im sure many people get frustrated,

can’t cancel and then carry on using the product until they finally manage to cancel it.

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering this too. So basically they get £6 off you for the month.

Hi @MikePB @dee761  @RetroDave

I've taken this offer before and can confirm that you can cancel at any time within the 4 week trial period and it will end you subscription at the end of 4 weeks as stated in small print at the bottom of the email......

"Subscription to Sky Cinema automatically renews unless you cancel before the end of your 4-week trial"

It is only if you carry on without cancelling after 4 weeks you will then be subject to a 31 day cancellation clause.

Thanks for the clarity! Is cancelling over the phone the only method?

Unfortunately yes

I am just another Sky customer!

Re: Free Sky cinema trial

Just spoke to a sky advisor who stated that if you take out this offer and cancel immediately,  you still get charged for the days over the 28. Now I know you're getting 4 weeks free, but sky are still making money from customers because of the 31 days cancellation .

Not happy

@sask11  that is not correct. See my post 5 above saying I didn't get charged anything.

Thanks for your reply, I did read your post but the advisor was adamant about it. Just kept saying, " well you're getting 28 days for free "

Re: Free Sky cinema trial

I'm in contract with Sky until May 2024, I'm wanting to cancel then. If I take the movies free trial & cancel before I'm charged, will it renew my contract with Sky & I'll be unable to cancel?

Re: Free Sky cinema trial

I'm about to activate this 4 week Sky Cinema trial today, and I'm happy for it to run past the New Year, so I'm OK with paying for one more month at £6.  Therefore, I'm trying to work out the date on which I should cancel? On the last day of the 4 week trial? In theory, that should be the start of my 'pay' month, yes?

Re: Free Sky cinema trial

It's just dawned on me that I think I can cancel anytime.  But how will Sky bill me, pro rata or the full £6 if I cancelled say, 2 weeks from today, which would be the 12th December?  So 31 days notice of cancellation would mean Sky Cinema is switched off on 12th January.

I started my free trial today, so it will end on Boxing Day. So how much do I get charged for the period Boxing Day to 12th January?  £6?  Or part of £6?  Very confusing!

@StevieD54 billing is prorata - sometimes you have to give (31 days) notice straight applying the offer.

Billing is also monthly in advance so you may actually incur charges past any cessation date but this will be credited back in the following bill.

Re: Free Sky cinema trial

In a weak moment I agreed over the phone to a months free Cinema. I do not wish to have it after the month. Can you tell me which tel number I can use to cancel? They say they will send me an e mail before the end asking if I wish to continue - only problem is I do not trust them to do this!
