Dynamic Mode

I have recently got a Sky Q box for my Samsung tv which is a Qled model. Should the settings for this be on dynamic mode?

Re: Dynamic Mode

Do you mean in terms of Picture settings? If so it's entirely personal preference. Dynamic/Vivid modes are often very bright with over saturated colour, but some people like it that way.

Re: Dynamic Mode

Thanks for your reply. If l change it to standard the picture it is too dull. These changes l make are on my Samsung tv remote. As my Sky remote has only 1 option which is to change the contrast

Re: Dynamic Mode

I would use cinema or filmaker mode which shows the picture as the director intended. It can be a little dark until you get used to it, especially on cheaper TV's, also if you have been using Dynamic or Vivid modes which use overly bright and saturated colours.

Re: Dynamic Mode

Changing the picture settings is always done by the TV remote as is any settings on the TV. The Sky remote acts as a dumb remote for TV, only adjusting sound and turning TV on and off.

Also make sure you have Enhanced or Deep Colour or whatever the setting is on Samsung for the HDMI input to accept the UHD and HDR input from Sky Q box.

hi @Ronz

There is no wrong or right mode - it is down to what you prefer.

We must, however, mention some things

Vivid/Dynamic & indeed many Sports modes ramp up the brightness and add electronic processing which actually make the picture  unnatural and not generally intended by the programme makers.  Colours can be over saturated & over time you may find your eyes more weary from watching.

When using these modes with HDR contennt you are less likely to see the benefits as there is no addional headroom in the brightness to accentuate the highlights that HDR provides and the Darker areas don't display as fully dark due to this ramp up in brightness

these modes will also use more electricity - if you have a smart meter try looking at the current usage using these modes compared to normal or Cinema modes

Normal & Cinema modes usually appear duller at first (or when switching) but after watching for a while you are likely to see more detail and a more natural image .

These days I think most TVs have a mode called something like   Film maker (or might just be cinema)  which is usually callibrated to be the most natural and closest to how programme makers intend you to watch

These modesmay appear with even less 'punch' at first but once you are used to this mode  you are likely, as above, to appreciate the detail and colours &  these modes are likely to show the biggest difference between non HDR  (aka SDR) & HDR content as it allows the full range of brightness to be used

They also have minimal or no extra electronic processing so less likely to show artifacts generated by that processing.

I do encourage everyone to experiment & watch for a longer period than just a few minutes

Personally I would advise people to be very wary of Dyanamic/Vivid/Sports modes for serious watching but I know some people do like these modes.
