Digital Handshake Problem (I think)

I have a Sky Q 2TB box.  Recently bought a Sony Bravia 7 II TV and Sony Theatre 8 Soundbar.  Previously had an older Sony TV and soundbar which worked perfectly OK.  However major problems with the new TV and soundbar.  Done a lot of Googling and came up with the digital handshake problem but not being really technical not sure if this is what is causing my problem.  Basically they just don't seem to speak to each other, I eithe have to unplug HDMI cable from Sky box to get a connection, or use a convoluted process with the TV/Sky remotes to get anything to work.  Then when I turn it off for the night the whole problem starts again the next day.  Have had 2 TV people in and neither can understand what is wrong.  Sony have connected remotely and say all settings are correct.  Actually now soundbar has lost all sound!  Has anyone experienced anything similar - there seems to be a view tha its the Sky connection being slow but Sky say that's not possible!!  Any help would be appreciate, I'm fed up with shifting a 55" TV set up every day just to plug in cables.

What do you have to do with the remotes to get it to work?

Have you checked the hdmi-cec setting on the Q box to make sure that's switched on?

Re: Digital Handshake Problem (I think)

Yes HDMI-cec setting is on.  Currently I have to turn on TV with Sony remote wait 10 secs then turn on Sky box with Sky remote wait 10 secs, then select input on Sony remote and select HDMI 4 (sometimes this is OK or sometimes I have to toggle HDMI 4 to another and back to get it to work as it does not recognise source) after which it either works or I have to go through the whole process again - this is after I have unplugged/plugged in the HDMI cable from the Sky box to start with.

Does that work without touching the cable?

Have you tried a different cable and hdmi socket?

Re: Digital Handshake Problem (I think)

If you don't take the cable out Sky doesn't connect at all.  Have changed all cables to Audio Quest ones..  Moved from HDMI 1 to 4.  It seems to work OK (although I still have to use 2 remotes to turn on) without the soundbar so I think that's the source of the problem.  Googling does throw up that it seems to be a problem with the newer Sony equipment but no real suggestions on how to resolve.

Maybe stick a cheap HDMI switch in between so the handshake is "proxied"

A hardware device which permits more than one external device to be plugged into a single HDMI port, with a switch (either manual or automatic) to select which is providing input.
