Confirm channel change when live pause

Suggestion for a small change that would make a big difference. Surely it's simple to implement.  When it watching a program or movie, sometimes I, like many people, will pause for interruptions (bathroom break, someone at the door, etc). I don't know how many times over the years between me being clumsy and my small dog crawling on the sofa, the remote control has been  accidentally hit and the channel has been changed means I then miss the time that a show was paused.

Surely it would be easy enough for the software to recognise live pause was active and then ask for confirmation to change channel? Surely I can't be the only person to ever suffer this?

Yup done that but Sky are unlikely to make any such changes given the lifecycle of the product.

That's a real shame. I dabbled in software coding years ago, this would be a change that would literally take minutes to code. Obviously I know coding is only a small part of the process but still, would be a small change that makes a genuine difference to user experience.

@Vikki67

There's no particular incentive for Sky to improve the user experience on a platform which they are trying to convince subscribers to move away from before it's closed down entirely.

Having worked in software my entire career, the actual coding of anything is always 10x as complex as expected and that's before you take into account the various business reasons why certain things get prioritised and others don't

I recommend hitting record when you pause as a workaround, if this is a non-rare event. Can't lose it then.

Oh? What do you mean move away from a platform?

The days of satellite TV in the UK are numbered... (and thus Sky Q)

...but not until 2029 or so

Re: Confirm channel change when live pause

So what will it move to? And just out of curiosity wouldn't another platform still be based on the current Q OS?

Streaming. It's already available.

No, because they already have a new platform for that, Comcast's.

The Comcast Corporation (historically a cable television company) acquired Sky Group after finally winning a bidding war with Disney in 2018: Sky Glass and Sky Stream which were launched in late 2021 run on Comcast software stacks, as does the current version of NowTV, and both the Max and Gigafast+ Hubs.

The likely end of satellite television broadcasting to the UK and Ireland has been discussed extensively, including here:
