Apps going black, cutting out.

When trying to watch any of the apps E.g ITVx it will sometimes allow me to select a programme and then start but all of a sudden the screen will go black. If I press the home or sky button the screen will come back with the sky menu and previous programme/channel. Im getting frustrated now as it has got to point it cuts out before I can even select a programme. Happens with a number of apps such as amazon and ITVx as mentioned also apple tv. Cant watch anything!
