@Deekay1

You can use your phone in China for £2 per 24 hours or will be free if you a Diamond level VIP customer. data is restricted to 25GB per billing period and while calls to UK landlines and mobiles are included calls to local numbers in China are charged at international rates.

However...

AIUI End-to-end encryption is generally blocked so no WhatsApp.

Phone calls and SMS should work fine but assume they are monitored and can be blocked.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

That's not Sky functionality, and is really a question to address to tourism and travel forums.  In general if you choose to visit a country which restricts access to such things by its own population then encountering limits on communication probably shouldn't be a surprise.

The UK Foreign Office says:

Internet access

The Chinese authorities control internet access. Internet access can be limited around key political events and dates. Some services are permanently blocked, including:

Google

Facebook

YouTube

X

Other websites may sometimes be blocked.

China’s cybersecurity laws state that online products and services (for example, VPNs) need to be licensed by the Chinese government
