Using Messages in USA with Wi-Fi only

I have an Apple iPhone 11 Pro and have Wi-Fi . However the only texts I receive are iMessages. The phone is in airplane mode for the majority of time as I do not want to incur the £2 a day if  I don't need to. I also have the international saver on. Once  I take off airplane mode my messages do come through. Our friend who is with us and is in an EE network gets all his messages when in airplane mode and has Wi-Fi.  So my question is why am I not receiving messages  with Wi-Fi access and in airplane mode. My husband has the same problem and is also on sky mobile. How do I resolve this issue.?  This is very important as I cannot receive OTP notifications.

Hi @Beachlover20  leave airplane mode off, as long as you have roaming and mobile data off you won't trigger the daily charge for receiving texts or calls, only if you make them.
