@Payment+bill It depends on how you "upgrade", if you use the swap option then the value of your returned phone is usually used to pay off the remaining balance, if the phone value is lower then you will be billed the remaining amount on your next bill.
If you just order a new phone then you will have to continue paying for your current phone each month alongside your new phone.
