Sudden increase in data usage

Hi All,

I have a Samsung S25 and 5GB on a monthly plan.

About a week ago I got a message from Sky saying I was nearly out of data.

This never happens and on average I only use between 2&3 GB.

I have checked all the obvious and the only app I can find that could be the cause is Facebook as the usage is very high. However, I have had Facebook for 12 years and im not doing anything different than I normally do. As I said I have 5GB a month but I have already had to roll over 4GB and I still have 7 days till it refreshes. Any help would be very gratefully received. TIA Maggie

Although I had my Wi-Fi turned it had somehow dropped out on my device and I hadn't noticed.

I signed back in on my phone and problem solved.

Bit of a school boy or girl error really.

Very grateful for the replies though and sorting it out for me. Much appreciated.

If there has been an update to the app then it might be that for here on in Facebook will be using more data so have you tried disabling it and anything else that you do not use ?

Hi @MaggieT56  open the Facebook app and go to settings & privacy, settings, media and make sure autoplay in feed and stories is set to never.

Yes I did unistall but I was still using a vast amount of data.

I've changed it to "Never" so fingers crossed that will stop draining my data.

Hi again,

Unfortunately that didnt work. Whatever it is is still eating up my data FAST! I'm turning my phone off now at night to try and reserve some data.

What have you tried so far ?

 

If you are at home and have broadband then your device should connect to your Wi-Fi if you have Wi-Fi turned on,

Can you explain what the solution was @MaggieT56  in case other customers have a similar issue  ?
