Sky Roaming 25gb Data Cap

Has anyone ever gone over the 25gb data cap whilst abroad.

My son is in Spain and is concerned he may go over the cap.

His plan is for 40gb a billing cycle and he never goes anywhere near that generally but he has another week in Spain and only 11gb of the 25gb left.

The 25GB roaming gap is per billing cycle.  So a new 25GB limit starts when the cycle ends.

If you go over the limit then data is charged at £2.50 per additional GB.

Our billing cycle started on 10th and he has 11gb left.

So from what you are saying, once this is used it will be £2.50 per gb over 25gb.

So a run rate of around 3-4GB per day means it will 'run out'  in around 3 days...

The limit is per dataplan - so another option could be to tether to another phone under the limit...

(Or use WiFi or get him doing something else 😉)

Roaming using Roaming Passport Plus (so in 120 countries) is now limited to 25GB per billing period.

From Skys own website...

"When you roam using our Roaming Passport Plus, we consider that up to 25GB per billing period is a reasonable amount of data to use. If you exceed this amount, we'll assume that you're no longer using data in the way expected of a reasonable customer for periodic travel."

"We may suspend your service, restrict your usage, or charge you for the data that you use in excess of these amounts (currently £2.50 per GB), and we'll let you know by SMS or email before we do so."

Also bear in mind if your data usage is set too low or set to zero it will block you from using your phone abroad. You need to have at least £2 for every day you are there (recently offered free for Sky Diamond customers ~ all sims on account).

I have told him to use wifi wherever possible but he's 17. They are attached to there phones🤣.

Normally he's very active but currently in Madrid but long journey back to Northen Spain on sunday so i'm guessing he'll be on his phone a lot.

It looks as if we'll be notified if he goes over anyway but i'll keep an eye on his account.

Can i tether to my phone if i'm in the UK?

Should be able to tether anywhere...

If it's an iPhone then enable personal hotspot.

Thanks for your help. After looking again its not as bad as I thought.

I was looking at last months usage. He has 16gb left to use & has a week left so hopefully enough
