Problems with call forwarding etc.

I have been made aware of SIM swapping fraud, It’s when criminals hijack someone’s mobile phone number by transferring it to a new SIM card under their control. Nearly 3,000 unauthorised SIM swaps were logged on the National Fraud Database in 2024. Recommendation were 1) Check phone for call forwarding and or diversion and 2) set up A PIN on the SIM.

I Called Sky tech support as was told not to worry as it is not  possible for someone other than yourself to set up call forwarding/diversion. Now when someone tells me not worry is the rime I start worrying!

I then asked tech support about setting up a PIN on the SIM as was told not to as it could course problems!

I tried to check for call forwarding by dialing *#21# but received the message. “Call forwarding Connection problem or invalid MIMI code. I got the same when I dialed *#61#

So my questions are.

  1. Is true to say no one other than myself can set up call forwarding/diversion?
  2. Why do I get the error messages when trying to check for forwarding/diversion?
  3. I it correct to say that setting up a SIM PIN can cause problems?

Hope someone can help.
