Hello, we're looking to swap a phone which has 12 months left on the contract.
The 'new' phone has an offer on the plan that is better than the existing situation.
If anybody can answer these questions it would be appreciated:
1. Is the plan tied in to the contract? So effectively the current plan remains for 12 months?
2. If the answer to question 1 is yes, is there the possibility of swapping to the new plan for the remainder of the contract (EG are Sky flexible?)
3. If the current plan remains in place until the contract ends (12 months) - what happens then? Does that plan just expire and you can buy a new plan? Does that plan just continue?
And apologies one more question:
4. When a contract expires (3 years), what happens then. Do you have to remain on the same plan to continue using the phone?
Anybody who responds, thank you in advance for your patience 🙂

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreIf you pay until the end of your agreed period then you own the phone. (You have to keep paying for a dataplan for as long as you want to use Sky as a carrier)
If you 'swap'* then you start a whole new device plan. (You don't get a brand new phone and just pay the remaining period of your current device plan)
In terms of the dataplan itself, if you purchase a new one then it will have a new phone number. You cannot transfer numbers within a network. The dataplan and device plan are separate contracts.
* your current phone has an outstanding balance, the trade in value of that phone should hopefully clear the balance depending on condition

The device plan and the dataplan are separate. You have to keep a new dataplan for 12 months. (Sky mobiles are not network locked so you can put any network SIM in them). Dataplans continue until you cancel them (subject to the 12 months minimum term)
Sky will generally not apply 'new customer' offers to existing SIMs. (The offers are usually for additional SIMs only - with a new phone number)
