Not ordered iphone i recieved 2 iphones

Hi i recived 2 iphone 16 max pros this morning which i hadnt orderd and when i foned sky they seemed to know it was a scam stright away, what gets me is i now have to go through the process of returning the fones and getting these cancelled and waiting 10 days to process. Ive looked on line and it seems to be a Common scam and going on since 2013 aparantly!! but surley sky should know there customers and see whats happening,  i only noticed this when i went to my piggy bank to transfer some data. Has anybody had this type of scam happen to them?

also the sky operator said the scamers will call you and say they from sky and that theres been a mistake and they will send a courier to collect the iphones, but NOT to give the iphones to any courier. l would be intrested to know if anyone else has had this happen.

In particular note the only legitimate return address given in the Sky article.  Instructions to send the phones anywhere else are from the scammers.

Sky Mobile sees a legitimate looking order and processes it accordingly: that's why the phones arrive in the first place.

@Amo67  These scams happen as the scammers have managed to get access to your personal data by such means as dodgy phone apps, phishing emails, dodgy websites, social media posts etc.

Sky can't know you didn't order these phones as someone has got access to your account and as such unless Sky develop ESP or mindreading techniques will see the orders as genuine as they are being sent to the registered address.  https://www.sky.com/help/home/your-account/support-with-fraud/account-takeover/articles/account-take...

You will need to make sure all accounts you have have had password changed including your Sky account.

Re: Not ordered iphone i recieved 2 iphones

I also received two iphone 16 pro max titanium mobile phones, at first I thought it was a scam, and then did showed up with the phones, £1,200.00 each!!!!

I called sky they said my account had been hacked, they sent me an email with address stickers, and told me to package them up attach the address stickers then go to the post office and send them to sky. Today a postman comes to me door asking for a package to collect,  he even had stickers with the address to send them to, I had been told not to hand the mobiles over to anyone, but this person is my regular postman, I thought about it for a minute and decided not to give him the mobiles,  he seemed angry,  but I held ferm and kept the mobiles here with me. This is very concerning, and to be truthful I feel scared and do not know who to trust, I am 60 and can't afford the l£2,500.00 and the two 30 month contracts at £35.00 per month!!

Has this happened to anyone else, and what should I do?!?

Any help is appreciated.

You were right not to hand them over.  Your regular postman is not in on the scam but would happy collect them and unknowingly send them to the scammers.

The official return address is noted here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/account-takeover  (Unipart in Nuneaton)

Re: Not ordered iphone i recieved 2 iphones

I personally feel sky has partial responsibility in this situation. Why always 2 iPhone suddenly ordered specially with so many people. They must have some controls in place to reconfirm before dispatch if the order was placed by the right account holder or it's just a scam. The loop hole here is that the money is not deducted imminently and you won't get a bank notification. So you would not know if something has happened before final order email at dispatch is sent. Some thing is really fishy at sky

I specifically cancelled my contract with sky only due to lack of appropriate controls at Thier end. [removed]

Hi yes but lack of good controls pays a vital role in these situations which I felt lacking at sky

@Nomi1976  But if people have unwittingly given the scammers all their personal; details and they present it to Sky or any other company then what checks do you expect them to make, there are already controls in place to stop access without any of the required security info.

Scammers are clever and will obtain all the info they need from unsuspecting customers, it is up to customers to be on their guard.

I they get calls out of the blue offering deals that seem to tbe too good to be true, the the old adage if it's too goo to be true then it probalbly is applies.

Accounts are being compromised either by weak (reused) passwords or account holders actually giving their personal details to scammers.

However, Sky could implement two-factor logon which could drastically reduce the chances of compromise.

That option is now available as I have it turned on via my account.
