New sim

I got a new contract and phone out with Sky yesterday. Received my phone and sim. I read through how to activate the sim, I wanted to keep my old number. But my old number hasn't transferred over and when I did do it came up as error? So is my sim activated with my old number? Or is it not?

...if you have a PAC from a different network then it usually takes a working day to transfer (it's not immediate).  Use your old provider's SIM until it stops working.

@Bon4

Did you activate the sim today and also give Sky the pac code you got from O2 today because if so the number would not transfer over until tomorrow at the earliest if you gave them the pac code before 6pm.

Re: New sim

Yes I activated SIM card today. I believe was after 6pm. I sent Sky the PAC code.

Then once sent said ERROR. This transfer will now take a couple of hours to process?
But O2 said will only take a few moments to transfer over? Or will this take longer due to being set up at 6pm?

If you gave the code after 6PM then it's considered as being given tomorrow.

The transfer may not complete until 2 January.  (As transfers are not processed during bank holidays or weekends)

For all transfers you should use your old provider's SIM until it stops working.  (And then insert the Sky SIM)

Re: New sim

Thank you so much for the advice and help, I'll give it until the 2nd then.

Do I need to take my SIM card out my new phone? As I set it all up as a whole new phone (as I said I got a whole new phone and whatnot out with Sky) but I don't want to mess up anything with the new sim in I don't need too? My partner cancelled the old phone and sim. So will that affect the change of number?

You can continue using your O2 sim card then on the day the number transfers that will stop working then you should be able to use the Sky one or you can use that now with the number it came with so the choice is yours.
